Everything You Need to Know About Menagerie Style House
Booking & Reservations
How do I book a reservation at Menagerie Style House?
You can book online through our website or by calling or texting either location directly. Our Raleigh team can be reached at 919.803.7144 (call) or 832.669.5792 (text). Our Wendell team is at 919.374.7128 (call) or 984.271.1420 (text). If you’re not sure which service you need, reach out and we’ll point you in the right direction.
What are your hours?
Both locations are open Tuesday through Saturday:
The Raleigh location runs Tuesday-Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday 9am-6pm, and Saturday 9am-3pm.
The Wendell location is Tuesday-Thursday 10am-8pm, Friday 9am-6pm, and Saturday 9am-3pm.
Both locations are closed Sunday and Monday.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require 48 hours notice for any cancellation or service change. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice are charged 50% of the scheduled service. Same-day cancellations (within 4 hours) are charged the full service amount, as are no-shows. A credit card on file is required to hold any reservation.
How do I know which stylist is right for me?
Our team has a range of specialties, and we’re happy to help match you. If you’re looking for lived-in color, Kiki is our owner and that’s exactly her focus. Emma specializes in blondes and Invisible Bead Extensions. Mandy brings 23 years of experience with dimensional color and reds. Nora handles vibrant and fantasy colors. Rosa has three decades of expertise, including keratin treatments and color correction. If you’re a bride, Sarah Brouwer is our in-house bridal specialist. Still not sure? Just tell us what you’re looking for -- we’ll help.
What’s the difference between stylist levels, and how does pricing work?
Our pricing reflects each stylist’s experience, training, and expertise -- not your gender or hair length alone. We have five tiers: New Talent, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. Each level represents increasing years of experience and advanced education. You can find full pricing breakdowns on our services page, and every reservation starts with a consultation to confirm the right service for you.
Services & What to Expect
What’s included in a color service?
Every color service at Menagerie includes a detailed consultation, conditioning treatment, gloss, bond builder, and a haircut and/or signature blowdry. You’re not paying for the color alone -- you’re getting a complete experience from start to finish.
What is a “lived-in color” and how is it different from highlights?
Lived-in color is a dimensional coloring technique that creates depth, movement, and a naturally sun-kissed look -- the kind that grows out beautifully without a harsh line of demarcation. It’s softer than traditional foil highlights and is designed to look effortless from week one through week twelve and beyond.
Do you offer services for natural or curly hair?
Yes. Our team works with all hair textures, and services are customized based on your hair’s density, texture, and health. Mieke, who has been doing hair for 21 years, particularly enjoys working with curly cuts and lived-in color on textured hair. We price based on hair density and the skill involved -- not gender.
What is the Artistry Essentials charge I see on the service menu?
This is a service-specific charge that covers the premium products used during your visit -- including the exact color formulation created for you, bond builders, and our sustainable salon practices as a Green Circle Salon. It’s tailored to what your specific service requires, so it will vary.
Do haircuts cost extra on top of color services?
No. Haircuts are included in the pricing of every color package. You are not charged separately for your cut when it’s part of a color experience.
Keratin Treatments
What does a keratin treatment actually do?
A keratin treatment infuses the hair with a protein-based formula that smooths the cuticle, reduces frizz, cuts drying time, and makes styling significantly easier. It doesn’t straighten your hair or eliminate curl -- it tames frizz and improves manageability while maintaining your natural texture. Results typically last three to five months depending on your hair and how you care for it.
Who performs keratin treatments at Menagerie?
Keratin services are offered by a limited number of team members. Rosa, with 30 years of experience, is one of our specialists in this area. First-time keratin guests at Menagerie are required to book the All-Inclusive Keratin service, which includes take-home shampoo and conditioner formulated to extend your results.
How should I prepare for a keratin treatment?
Come in with clean hair and no heavy product buildup. Plan for a longer service -- a full keratin treatment takes time to apply and process correctly. You’ll need to avoid washing your hair or pulling it back for 72 hours after the service.
Hair Extensions
What types of extensions does Menagerie offer?
We specialize in hand-tied extensions with a hidden bead method and K-Tips . Mandy has been certified in braided hand-tied extensions and Emma is extension certified. Lorna and Kiki are experienced in K-Tip extensions. All extension services are booked by consultation only.
How do I get started with extensions?
The first step is an extension consultation, which is $45. This is your opportunity to ask questions, understand the maintenance involved, and determine the right method for your hair. Extensions are a significant investment, and we want every guest to go in with a clear picture of the process, upkeep, and cost before committing.
Products & Sustainability
What product lines does Menagerie carry?
We carry Oribe and Aveda exclusively. Both are cruelty-free lines that deliver consistent, professional results. We don’t carry products we don’t stand behind -- and these two brands cover everything from color-safe care to styling and scalp health.
What is a Green Circle Salon and why does it matter?
Green Circle Salons is a certified sustainability program that helps salons recover and repurpose up to 95% of their beauty waste -- including hair clippings, foils, excess color, and aerosol cans. Without this kind of program, those materials end up in landfills where they contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and water contamination. As a certified Green Circle Salon, both of our locations participate fully. It’s part of how we align our daily work with our values around environmental responsibility.
Hair Care Education
How often should I be getting a haircut?
For most guests maintaining healthy hair, every six to twelve weeks is standard. If you’re growing out your length, you can stretch to twelve weeks or longer -- but regular trims prevent split ends from traveling up the shaft and causing more damage over time. Your stylist will give you a specific recommendation based on your hair’s health and goals at your reservation.
What’s the best way to maintain color between salon visits?
The biggest factors are your shampoo, how often you wash, and heat protection. Use a color-safe sulfate-free shampoo, wash in cool water, and limit heat styling when possible. For blondes and highlighted hair, a weekly toning treatment or purple shampoo once a week helps keep brassiness at bay. Our team can build you a specific at-home routine based on what you have done at your reservation.
When is it time to see a professional instead of managing things at home?
If you’re dealing with significant damage, breakage, color that’s gone wrong, or hair that isn’t responding to your at-home routine, it’s time to come in. Home correction attempts on color -- especially going lighter -- often compound the problem. Our team offers consultations so you can get a clear assessment before committing to anything.
Still Have Questions?
We’re always happy to help. Reach out to either location by phone or text before your reservation, and we’ll make sure you have everything you need going in. You can also book your consultation directly online -- it’s the best starting point for anything new.
