Hand-Tied Weft Extensions

Fuller Hair, With Less Upkeep

Hidden bead extensions, also called hand-tied wefts, add length and volume across your whole head with very few attachment points. Thin rows of hair are sewn onto small silicone-lined beads that sit flat against your scalp, so they stay comfortable, move naturally, and stay hidden even when you wear your hair up. This is our go-to method when you want all-over fullness with low daily upkeep.

What Are Hidden Bead Extensions?

Hidden bead extensions start with a weft, which is a thin row of hair tied by hand so it lies about as flat as a shoelace. We attach each weft to your natural hair using small beads lined with silicone, clamped gently along a row near your roots. Most guests wear three to five rows, depending on how much length and volume they want.

Because the wefts are tied by hand rather than machine-made, they stay thin and flexible. They bend and move with your hair, which keeps tension off your natural strands and makes them more comfortable than thicker, machine-sewn wefts. Nothing shows when you pull your hair back, so you can wear it up or down with confidence.

How Long Do They Last?

The hair itself lasts 9 to 12 months before it needs replacing, with a move-up reservation every 6 to 8 weeks in between. As your natural hair grows, the beads drift down and away from your scalp. At each move-up we remove the thread, slide the beads back up to your roots, and re-sew the same wefts.

Keeping your move-up reservations on schedule is the single most important habit for healthy extensions. Wait too long and the rows can tangle and matte, which is harder to undo. Stay on schedule and you can keep extensions in year-round.

What’s the Installation Process Like?

Your first reservation takes about two to four hours. We section your hair, place a row of beads along each section, then sew the weft directly onto that row with a needle and thread. The finished rows lie flat against your head, with no bulk and nothing visible when you pull your hair back. You can curl, straighten, and wear updos the same day.

How Do You Care for Hidden Bead Extensions?

Washing: Wash two to three times a week with a sulfate-free shampoo. Work the shampoo into your scalp and let it rinse through the lengths. Condition from mid-length to ends and keep conditioner off the beaded rows.

Brushing: Use a soft-bristle or loop brush twice a day. Start at the ends and work up, holding the hair above where you brush so you never tug on the rows. Never brush soaking wet hair.

Sleeping: Put your hair in a loose braid or low ponytail before bed. A silk pillowcase helps cut down on tangling.

Products to skip: Heavy oils and silicones near the beads, plus anything with a lot of alcohol. Stick with sulfate-free, extension-safe products and a heat protectant for styling.

Who Are They Best For?

Hidden bead extensions suit most hair types, and they do their best work on fine-to-medium hair with decent density, where a few rows add a lot of fullness without many attachment points. Thick hair hides the rows easily too. You need about four to five inches of natural hair so we have enough to braid and secure the beads. If your hair is shorter than that right now, K-tip extensions may be a better place to start.

Hidden Bead Extension FAQ

Will anyone be able to tell?
When they are placed and maintained well, no. The rows sit flat and stay tucked under your own hair, even in a ponytail.

Can I work out and swim?
Yes. The sewn rows hold up well to exercise. Rinse and wash after swimming, and braid your hair first so it does not tangle.

Do they damage my hair?
Not when they are applied and maintained correctly. The weight spreads across each row instead of pulling on single strands. Keeping your move-up reservations is the most important part of protecting your natural hair.

How is this different from K-tip?
Hidden bead uses sewn rows for all-over volume with fewer attachment points. K-tip bonds individual strands for precise, targeted placement. Many guests pick hidden bead for overall fullness and K-tip for detail work or shorter starting lengths. Compare K-Tip extensions here.
